"Our Pledge"
Captain John Paul Gonzales
Aries Chief Medical Officer
Be it pledged as a Emergency Medical Technician, I will honor the physical and judicial laws of the Gods and man. I will follow that regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of patients and abstain from whatever is deleterious, nor shall I suggest any such counsel. Into whatever ship I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of only the sick and injured, never reveling what I see or hear in the lives of men unless required by law.
I shall also share my medical knowledge with those who may benefit from what I have learned. I will serve unselfishly and continuously in order to help make a better world for all mankind.
While I continue to keep this oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life, and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times. Should I trespass or violate this oath, may the reverse be my lot.
"SO SAY WE ALL"
About The Medical Department
The Medical Department is responsible for maintaining the health of the crew, the treatment of sick and injured ship’s personnel, disease prevention and the promotion of good health ship-wide. The head of this department must be an officer of the Colonial Defense Force Medical Corps.
Additionally, the Chief Medical Officer provides guidance to the Commanding Officer in the areas of ship wide sanitation, personal hygiene, radiation health, environmental and industrial health and evacuations.
Smaller ships of the Battle Group may not have an embarked Medical Officer in which case Hospital Corps personnel run the department under the administrative auspices of the Operations Department. The Medical Department also utilizes an inpatient ward for the care of surgical patients and those requiring special nursing care.
One of the extended responsibilities of the department is training the crew in first and self aid, heat stress, and sanitation. Crew members can receive their basic CPR and CPR instructor qualifications through Medical Department.
